The frames differ in depth, because the cases do. The base doesn't care: the slot is cut wide enough to take the thickest of them, so one base covers the whole range and you don't buy a stand per profile.

It leans the frame back, which is enough to read from across a room without looking like it's falling over, and it's weighted so a knock on the shelf doesn't put your card on the floor.
